FOOD FOR THE NAANIS
The Food for the Naanis program came about as a result of the April 2015 earthquake. Jimi Karthak realized that he did not want any of the underprivileged children in his hometown Kathmandu, to go without. Thus, he began his journey now known as Food for the Naanis. At first, because the disaster had so recently struck, it was easier to obtain donations to run the program through his contacts. However, as time passes, tragedies are soon forgotten and the devastation in Nepal was no longer making headlines. It is always later on in the rebuilding process that aid is most needed, yet that is also when it is received the least. Jimi was beginning to find it difficult to continue running his program throughout Kathmandu, traveling to different schools, orphanages, and shelters with nutritious meals for people who had begun to rely heavily upon the Food for the Naanis initiative. After meeting Jimi and sponsoring 1-2 programs in person, being able to see the results first hand of what it is like to offer a nutritious meal to a child who is malnourished, it was clear that this was a program Mannkind was going to sponsor indefinitely. Today, Mannkind looks after providing continuously 2,000 meals every single month.
